Introducing Lila Rose!

A Wicket Player by Yves Hentic

I’ve finally found a moment to start blogging about my incredible new bride Lila Rose!  Where to start?!?

Brides who commission Brooks Ann Camper dresses are usually ones who cannot find what they are looking for in a store.  This is usually because they have a unique figure (don’t we all??) or a unique style.  Lila Rose is the latter.  She definitely did not want a traditional white dress.  Lila Rose has a one-of-a-kind style and personality that begs for a wedding dress that is colorful, dramatic, empowering and unexpected.  Sounds right up my alley!

Oddly enough, Lila Rose and I met at my own birthday party.  I had a low-key get together at my house on my birthday last fall and Lila Rose was the guest of our mutual friend Rosemary.

The gathering was on a beautiful day in October (I love North Carolina in October!) and was a “Croquet on the Lawn” party.  The title sounds a lot more glamorous than it actually was, but Lila Rose and I got to know each other in my own backyard as we swung our wickets with the rest of the guests.

Lila Rose lives in Boston.  Usually my brides are local, since my services are very personal and it is imperative that they attend all of their fittings.  But Lila Rose was up for the travel challenge and enjoyed the idea of having more reasons to come down to North Carolina to visit our friend Rosemary, who she has known since elementary school.

Interestingly enough, Lila Rose’s wedding ceremony is going to be held at that very same elementary school with attendees sitting in the playground.  The school itself is painted with the really fun bright colors that she loves.  This setting is part of the inspiration for Lila Rose’s brightly colored offbeat wedding style!

The main inspiration of her wedding day is FUN!  And the two of us have been having just that!

Initially, Lila Rose had A LOT of ideas.  When she told people her ideas, they all said she was “crazy”.  She had been working on making her own (pink and green spandex!) wedding dress by herself over the past year before she realized that her design and sewing skills had reached their limit.  Since she lived so far away and I absolutely loved the idea of the bride making her own dress, I initially tried to help her find assistance locally.  I found this cool stitch lounge called Gather Here and Make Something in her area and I thought they would be a great resource to help her make her own dress.

After doing her research, Lila Rose still had her heart set on wearing a Brooks Ann Camper Bridal Couture creation for her unique wedding day.  She liked that I didn’t make her feel like she was “crazy”, and and that I was willing to work with her to edit her “crazy” ideas into the gorgeous couture dress of her dreams.

So we took the next step and she flew down for her Design Consultation…

…with the caveat that I don’t do spandex!

I can’t wait to share our journey with you!
