Unexpected Asymmetrical Romantic Floral Statement Pieces
Heather’s Asymmetrical Shoulder Piece and Veilette
A textured hand crafted one-of-a-kind asymmetrical shoulder accessory featuring soft dark blue tulle flowers with pearly centers and green leaves, ribbon flowers, striped feathers, dotted feathers, pearls, and various white laces. The shoulder piece has scalloped lace edges that lay just over the shoulder and just up the neck.
The veilette is made of white english net and features some of the same flowers, feathers, pearls, and laces as the shoulder accessory.
Inspirations
The inspiration for the shape starts at the top right. Then the two below show textured handcrafted inspirations.
The photo in the bottom left shows a sampling of the actual fabrics, trims, and items to be included.
Maids’ Accessories
For the maids, something very similar to these mockups mounted onto a pin back so that they can wear them on their shoulders.
Two of each type for a total of four pins.
Addition Ideas
I love the idea you had about adding a flowing layer of tulle from the bottom of the shoulder accessory. You’ll have to use your imagination a bit with some of these examples, but here are some ways that I think it could work.
Example #1
It could be long and flowing like a train. This would be something that you might step on, but probably not any more than the train that is already on the dress.
We could also make this stop right at the hemline, so there will be no worries about stepping on it!
Example #2
It could be shorter as more of a “sleeve”….
Example #3 – Trim ideas
The edges could be just hemmed and left plain and soft, or a trim could be added. I could add a soft trim and keep it soft and flowy similar to the pic on the right, or add horsehair to the edge and make it more of a cascading floaty ruffle inspired by the pic on the left. (Imagine not quite so much of it!)
Let me know what you think!
Fitting and Mockup
Thanks so much for coming to the studio last week. Here are some photos from the fitting and of your mockup.
…and of you with your veil mockup, shoulder piece base, and Leah‘s belt.
You might want to show these pics to your hairdresser. I randomly came across this image the other day and thought it might be a fun way for you to be able to wear your hair down, while still making sure it doesn’t get caught in all of the decorations.
The belt
We also discussed adding a belt to tie the design in with all the excitement by your face and to make the dress a bit more comfortable to wear. Here’s the revised sketch:
I scouted fabrics at Mulberry Silks and found one fabric that I really like. I also found two other nice options, if you don’t like my first choice.
Here’s my first choice shown next to a flower for color reference:
I can mail you this swatch if you’d like to see and feel the fabric in person before making a decision. It’s got an interesting pattern that’s not overwhelming and a beautiful color.
Here are a couple of other options I like a lot. There is a cotton dotted swiss in a pretty matte navy color, shown next to the choice above. Then there is also a navy lace. I’d to find a second fabric to go underneath it, but it would be a good choice if you prefer a little more feminine look.
Let me know what you think and I’ll make up a contract with a price estimate. I’ll also use whatever fabric we choose as the dark base for the shoulder piece.
Stay warm!
The Grand Finale
Here are the pics of the finished pieces!
Absolutely stunning! I really enjoyed working with you to create this truly one-of-a-kind look.
Thank you so much for everything and have a wonderful wedding!
