Just a Peek!

Here’s just a quick snapshot of the back of Greta’s dress featuring the amazing Sposabella and Jaquard collar, the pearl buttons, and the pleated Ivory Silk Shantung. I just packed up the finished dress (!!) for our Final Fitting/Delivery and Fashion Photo Shoot this weekend!  I have been so busy creating this stunning dress for […]

Fitting and Shopping with Mom

I love it when my bride brings her Mom to the fitting!  Especially when she is as fun as Greta’s Mom.  (I love it so much and have so much fun that I often forget to take photos for blog posts.  I must get better about that!) Greta and her Mom came to my studio […]

Mockup Madness

I’ve been working like mad on Greta’s mockups!  I have found that I often get so wrapped up in the dressmaking process that I neglect to blog about it.  To fill you in, I will share with you the few photos that I took while working on Greta’s mockup(s).

Is it true?

When drafting one-of-a-kind dress patterns, there are many ways to achieve a similar result.  Each patternmaker develops his or her own preferred method.    Working in different workshops and schools throughout my career, I have learned a wide variety of drafting and cutting methods.  Now that I work for myself, I can choose what works best […]

The Rough Stuff

Once Greta’s custom dress form was complete, I began to create what is called a rough drape.  For my rough drape, I take inexpensive fabric and drape it on the “body”, sculpting and pinning a rough life-size version of my design.

For good measure…

Accurate measurements are imperative to achieving the perfect fit.  And I am not just talking about the standard bust-waist-hips measurement. I take a detailed set of around 40 measurements. These measurements give me a mathematical map of the woman’s body and (along with a few snapshots) the ability to recreate her exact curves onto a […]

The Design Proposal

Isn’t it lovely?? Inspired by my new bride and our Design Consultation, I started sketching Greta’s custom couture wedding dress.  I had taken a few snapshots of Greta before she left my studio, so that I could use it for the base of her sketches.  (I even handed her a candlestick holder and told her […]

The Design Process

The Design Consultation is one of my very favorite parts of the whole bespoke process.  Greta came back to my studio and we talked a lot about all of our ideas for her wedding-dress-to-be. We sorted through lots of inspiration images making ‘no’, ‘maybe’ and ‘favorite’ piles.  We had some clear favorites!  There were even […]

Inspirations and Consultations

Greta and I met for the first time at my studio for our Initial Consultation.  This is a free meeting where the new bride and I get to know each other a little better.  It’s really important that we communicate well and genuinely like each other.  If the dress is booked, we will be working […]
